7) Interruption

Published on

Liturgy

“When you harvest your land’s produce, you must not harvest all the way to the edge of your field; and don’t gather every remaining bit of your harvest. Leave these items for the poor and the immigrant; I am the Lord your God.” (Leviticus 23:22)

To create hospitality,

We sign up, to a certain extent, to be interrupted.

To have more than enough in our fridge,

To have tea or coffee ready,

So that when someone arrives unexpected,

We’re prepared for their interruption.

We have signed up to be hospitable,

And to let them in enough to co-create the space.

We share this table,

That means sometimes someone sits in our seat

Or takes the last of something,

And in this practice and process,

We learn to view all our resources as opportunities to share with another,

And to cultivate a greater bond with the human community.

Prepare for interruption,

Leave space for the hospitality that makes feasts in the fields.
