It’s entirely not fair

That life takes not one

But two

Parents from you.

Foundations

Before you were

(ready

to be) your own.

It’s entirely unfair

That others

Have both (parents).

And fail

Often

To appreciate the privilege of

A phone call.

It’s entirely unfair

The universe hasn’t asked,

Only taken,

Demanding you to practice this

Strength

Understanding

And

Courage.

Fuck.

It’s entirely unfair

And unfun

That you are mastering

And masterful

At living with

And through

Grief.

It’s entirely unfair

That at such young ages

Your parents

Both fell

Before their time

In a prime

Without warning

My dear one

You have faced

And been forced to embrace

So much ‘unfair.’

For April 9

For June 12

I will always remind my calendar

I will always hold your hand

And story.

I will always be part of your community.

I will always remember the dates that change your life,

And the ones you ask me to hold.

I will always defend you

Advocate for you

Stand with you

Stand for you

For all that is unfair around you

I scream, and cry, and rage alongside you

I will gladly walk beside you

Rage with you

And hold space for tears

through whatever unfair

Unfun

And super fucked up

Our lives throw at us.

For all that is within you

For all that you give the rest of us

In getting to be your friend and on your team

I give tremendous thanks.

It is remarkable

Beautiful

Astonishing

The way you live

And love

Loudly

Belovedly

Unabashedly

You are one of the most whole

And wholehearted

Souls

That I know

It has always been

A tremendous privilege

To receive your calls

Hold your story

Witness your glory

And be your friend

I will always

Be grateful

To be forever

Stuck to you.
