(re)sounding grief

Published on

water rushing

cascading overflow

the heart a spillway

with too much to carry

waiting

and weeping

grieving

powerless

to anyone/thing

but submission

to the journey

the current moment

this flowing current

collapse

unbridled

undone

the body surges

soul emerges

untethered to protocol

the heart blurts

the lungs collapse

gasp

inhale

an(d) ex ---

undone and long gone

tense

from present to past

every memory now 'last'

remember

the details

no more will they sound

(re)sound in these ears

these chairs

gone

too soon

we ask

and plead

for our lives best lived

let grief teach us to value

and (re)number our days

let fear not betray

or dismay

let the heart learn to stay

hold fast in the fray

wait not to then say

what you want and you need

time won't be freed

from passing

us by

Live, dear one.

Live deeply and fully.

Embrace

whatever place,

you most long to occupy.

Let the dreams that are nice,

may not deeply suffice

step aside

let them die

and new dreams

from the ashes

emerge and flower

be proud of their scent

let them surround you

dream not of those exotic flowers

you've heard rumors that grow

or find them

prepare(d)

to let your handful go.

Hold trust

dear one

you won't be alone,

but you must choose

and grab hold of this life

for you dearly

don't know

how many

how long

when will...

the last comes for us all.
